Families in Need partnership
We believe that no child should go hungry. Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on families and food poverty is expected to increase dramatically within the coming months.
That is why we’ve partnered with Essentials Delivery (Community Essentials CIC), a local Social Supermarket and delivery Foodbank.
Between November 2020 and March 2021, our Relief in Need and Education Charity will be funding 30 food parcels each week to families experiencing hardship in parts of Birmingham & Solihull*.
If you or someone you know is struggling financially and finding it difficult to provide essential food, please visit: https://essentials-delivery.org.uk/food-parcel/
* Essentials Delivery provides Food Parcels to people living in the following Post Code areas: B11, B13, B14, B26, B27, B28, B33, B38, B40, B47, B48, B90, B91, B92, B93 & B94.
Why SJMT is responding to this crisis
Sir Josiah Mason founded our charity to support those most in need. In the 1850’s, this was older women who were single or widows and children who were Orphans. In 1868, we opened our doors to what became the largest orphanage in Birmingham and this was the main purpose of our charity for many years. Since the 1960’s, we have largely supported older adults, but one of our charities ‘Sir Josiah Mason’s Relief in Need & Education’ was founded following the closure of the orphanage and with the purpose of relieving persons who are in need, hardship or distress; and to promote the education of persons who are under the age of 25.
We are currently looking at expanding and developing this part of our Trust and we feel we have a duty to respond in any way we can to the current crisis facing local families.
About Essentials Delivery
Essentials Delivery was founded in response to the Covid-19 crisis by Stephen Palmer & Sapphire Poles. In addition to providing cost-priced food/non-food essentials, they and their team of volunteers provide and deliver free food parcels to those in financial hardship.
Between the 15th March 2020 and 15th September 2020 Essentials Delivery successfully provided aid to in excess of 7500+ locals in South Birmingham and Solihull.
