Registered Managers are worth their weight in gold

Zoe Richardson our Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Operations was delighted to be invited along recently to talk to The Care Exchange, a new podcast series for managers in social care, hosted by Skills for Care. She was asked to talk about her role as a Nominated Individual and Caldicott Guardian for the Trust. Zoe explained how she sees the role as a job and not a title and how important she feels the role is in terms of ensuring her Registered Managers are supported; she constantly asks them "what do you need me to do?" Zoe also talks about how humour is so important to her and how it can really bring people together and help them through the more difficult days.

Definition of the terms used below.

Nominated Individuals: A Nominated Individual is defined as someone who supervises how activities in a care or nursery setting are done. They are also responsible for meeting the relevant regulations and registration conditions for example in the CQC (Care Quality Commission). They oversee all regulated activity on site and service management. They also ensure the service is run well and safely, that the service is compliant with service regulations and standards and make sure that the service is managed and has the right resources.

Caldicott Guardian: A Caldicott Guardian is a senior person responsible for protecting the confidentiality of people’s health and care information and making sure it is used properly.

All NHS organisations and local authorities which provide social care services must have a Caldicott Guardian.
