We're #CelebratingSocialCare this month

This month we’ve joined Skills for Care in #CelebratingSocialCare. Find out more about why and how we’re getting involved.

People who work in social care are highly-skilled, passionate and hard-working and it’s important that we take time to recognise the work they do and the impact it has in supporting people who draw on care to live their lives how they choose.

That’s why at SJMT we’ve been joining in on #CelebratingSocialCare throughout April.

We have a wonderful team providing essential support to people in need throughout the West Midlands and we want to celebrate the importance of the work they do and the positive impact they have on people's lives.

Here are just a few examples of some of the invaluable members of our social care team who have shared why they got into working in the care sector and what they love about it:

Alex is one of our carers who has worked in both Alexandra House & Alexandra Court. Alex says: "I enjoy working at SJMT as it’s a lovely, homely environment full of interesting characters I can learn from. The trust is extremely welcoming and positive and all are eager to be involved. SJMT gives vast amounts of opportunities in terms of training, qualifications & experience which has made me the carer I am today."

Sandra is another of our carers, who joined SJMT in November 2022. She says:

"I was a healthcare worker in a hospital for ten years. I wanted a change so I came to SJMT and I am so happy that I did because I get to spend more time with the residents. The staff I work with are very caring and amazing and we work together as a great team."

Anita, one of our carers at Alexandra Court, joined SJMT having previously worked in catering and never having worked in care before. She talked to us about why she moved into the care sector:

"I cared for my mum for 18 years after she had two strokes. Sadly she passed away in 2022 and I decided to put all my life skills into a job that I love doing.

Since I joined SJMT all the people who work here are so supportive and with the right training and such a wonderful team of staff I have been able to do a job that I love. I now assist all the lovely residents who live here and I really enjoy coming to work each day"

We would like to take this opportunity to thank not only the social care staff at SJMT but throughout the care sector. The work they do is absolutely vital and they truly are amazing people. There are lots of examples of the great work our team does which you can see by following our Facebook and Instagram pages or to find out more about #CelebratingSocialCare visit the Skills for Care website.
